DETAILED ITINERARY

Intimately explore the Kimberley coastline from the mighty Hunter River to Yampi Sound.

A light plane then helicopter flight into the mighty Hunter River, an adventure tour in itself. Travel the path of Phillip Parker King to King's Cascades in the Prince Regent River. Visit historic Camden Harbour - the 1st attempted settlement in the Kimberley, past massive pearl farms and visit bays and gorges with spectacular scenery. See the reef waterfalls of the impressive Montgomery Reef before visiting gorges, waterfalls and a couple of our own very special places. Fly from Talbot Bay aboard the seaplane after a tour of the Horizontal Waterfalls. This cruise can depart either Kununurra or Broome returning Broome.

The following itinerary may vary due to the time of year and prevailing weather conditions and the tides.  It is a good indication of the content of the cruise and can be in reverse. For special interest groups, eg birdwatching, fishing, we tailor the cruise specifically to suit.

Day 1 A charter flight from Broome or Kununurra will take you to the Mitchell Plateau for a helicopter flight via the Mitchell Falls to land at a deserted island at the mouth of the Hunter River. A warm welcome aboard before a short trip into the Hunter through it's majestic headlands and into Posorus Creek for our anchorage. Check our crab pots to ensure our supply for dinner before a tinnie ride to view the gorges and birdlife at the end of the main arm of the river. Fish a rockbar at the further reaches of Posorus Creek before returning to 'Red Sky' for our Mango Daiquiris and our first dinner aboard
Day 2 Amazing reflection of the red cliffs before travelling to the end of a small creek for a walk to the end of a gorge for a waterfall and swim. Further explorations and fishing of the small creeks lining the river.
Day 3 An early departure to travel across Prince Frederick Harbour into Port Nelson to anchor in Careening Bay. A delightful walk ashore to view the historic boab tree inscribed by Phillip Parker King's crew during careening of his vessel 'Mermaid' in 1820. A short trip to an isolated bay for our night's anchorage. Reef fishing for dinner.
Day 4 Travel early to catch the run in tide to St George Basin and the Prince Regent River. Run with the flood all the way to King's Cascades and anchor in front of the falls. Climb and walk to the top of the falls to swim across a pool edged by cliffs and pandanus to arrive at cascading waterfalls and waterworn rocks. A delightful exploration. On return to 'Red Sky', travel with the ebbing tide to anchor just in the mouth of Camp Creek.
Day 5 Crabbing and fishing before disembarking from the tinnie at the end of Camp Creek for a walk through sand to a small refreshing pool and pandanus fringed lagoons. A more adventurous walk and climb to spectacular waterfalls and wonderful views. Return to 'Red Sky' for a well earned rest and a spot of birdwatching.
Day 6 Early morning fishing before cruising out of the Prince Regent into St George Basin and into a small creek surrounded by hills full of palm trees. A tinnie ride to explore a long narrow creek, followed by good fishing on a rock bar before a beautiful sunset.
Day 7 An interesting cruise through Munster Waters, into a narrow gorge and then into Hanover Inlet. Anchor off impressive cliffs which are gold in the sunrise. A climb to view excellent rock art and for great views across the inlet. Fishing at a productive rockbar before sunset.
Day 8 Another early start to travel out of Hanover Bay into Port George IV and a stopover at Sheep island to pay our respects and view the graves from the failed attemtped settlement of Camden Harbour. On the mainland, a short walk to ruins from this settlement. You can imagine the hardships they experienced. Further travel past the large pearl farm of Kuri Bay and into Samson Inlet for the night. A scenic sheltered anchorage.
Day 9 Oystering at the low tide, before travelling south with the incoming tide. Explore the bay at Langgi with the petrified warriors of the Wandjina. Further south to anchor off Raft Point and an expedition to climb to an overhang high in the cliffs for excellent Wandjina rock art. A trip across Doubtful Day to anchor for the evening in a small side creek.
Day 10 Crabbing and fishing before a tinnie ride to the end of the creek to climb above the falls for a refreshing swim. Return to 'Red Sky' to travel across Doubtful Bay and out to Montgomery Reef to see the huge expanse of the reef exposed at low tide. Reef waterfalls and cascades with loads of fish, sharks and turtles. Return to Raft Point as the sun sets.
Day 11 A cruise south in Collier Bay to anchor at Madfish Creek. A tinnie ride to Graham's favourite gorge before a relaxing afternoon. Fishing on close by rock bars can be very exciting.
Day 12 Depart Madfish to travel north west through a scenic array of islands to anchor at the northern end of Talbot Bay. Many reefs again with waterfalls and exposed coral. Hold on for the fishing. Wait for the evening when the tide covers the reef to travel across the reef to anchor at a small bay on the souther side.
Day 13 Our special place - a reef waterall with clear water and schools of fish, sharks and loads of coral. A careful walk on the reef for a closer view. Fish the incoming tide and just take your pick as you see them swim past. Cruise through Talbot Bay to anchor in a sheltered spot for our last night aboard.
Day 14 Travel to the Horizontal Waterfalls for a tour of the falls before our sad farewells as you join the seaplane for the return flight to Broome or Derby.
