NORTHERN ADVENTURE Cruise 12nights/13days - Dates & Prices
DETAILED ITINERARY
This is a once a year, first of the season cruise - to take advantage of the run off of the wet season to view the spectacular waterfalls in this region.
A taxi ride from Kununurra to depart Wyndham to travel through the scenic Cambridge Gulf then along the east coast of the northern Kimberley, visiting the Berkeley and King George River systems with gorges and amazing waterfalls. Further north for an impressive rock art site and more waterfalls before exploring the Drysdale River with it's cascading rapids. Loads of fishing and crabbing for those hunter/gatherers. From McGowan's camp in Napier Broome Bay, a 4WD to Kalumburu for the return flight to Kununura
The following itinerary may vary due to the time of year and prevailing weather conditions and the tides. It is a good indication of the content of the cruise, but may be in a different order. For special interest groups, eg birdwatching, nature cruises or anglers, we tailor the cruise specifically to suit.
| Day 1 | Early taxi ride from Kununurra to Wyndham to board 'Red Sky at Night' for your warm welcome aboard. A leisurely cruise with the run out tide through the scenic Cambridge Gulf to arrive at the Lyne River just as the tide turns. Crab pots out for the rising tide and then exploration into the upper reaches of the river. Trolling for barra in the many small side creeks before complimentary Mango Daiquiris and our first gourmet dinner. |
| Day 2 | Early morning crocodile spotting and mudcrabbing before lunch along with further exploration. A short trip to the Helby River at the mouth of Cambridge Gulf. Chase the elusive barra before a beautiful sunset aboard. |
| Day 3 | Early departure to travel into the Joseph Bonaparte Gulf and north west with the runout tide to anchor in the lee of Reveley Island for lunch. A beach walk or tinnie exploration while awaiting for the rising tide to enter into the Berkeley River. Anchor in the scenic Berkeley with a fishing trip to land our dinner |
| Day 4 | After a relaxing night in a perfect anchorage, try our luck at crabbing before visiting waterfalls and a climb. Cruise the river aboard 'Red Sky' to further waterfalls and a perfect spot for a dip under the falls. Anchor beside cliffs for the night with a fishing and exploration trip before sunset cocktails |
| Day 5 | Another day in the Berkeley with a walk to explore the upper reaches of the river with flat rocks and small pools. Travel to the mouth of the river for more tributary explorations and interesting trolling |
| Day 6 | Early departure to travel along the coast to the next large river - the King George with it's oustanding twin falls. Cruise through the river gorges aboard 'Red Sky'. A climb and walk to view the falls from above before returning to 'Red Sky' for a well earned rest. A short cruise to our anchorage for the night at the fork of another creek with the chance of a barra. |
| Day 7 | Early morning fishing before exploring the King George tributaries with more waterfalls and gorges. Travel to the mouth of the river for the night's anchorage. |
| Day 8 | Depart King George River for a short cruise to anchor in a large bay. A tinnie ride for a climb and swim with a large waterfall. Troll the creek on your return for barra. Anchor in the shelter of Horseshoe Bay. Explore the reefs and beaches around the area. |
| Day 9 | Cruise north into the next bay to anchor off a small beach. A climb then explorations of this pristine area with amazing rock art. Visit a waterfall at the end of the creek before a short trip to anchor in a small bay almost at the most northerly tip of Western Australia |
| Day 10 | An early start to travel around Cape Londonderry's many reefs and into Napier Broome Bay. A stop over at a small beach for a walk and explore before a spot of fishing on 'Graham's Reef'. South into the mouth of the Drysdale River. An afternoon walk along the beach and unbelievable fishing on a rock bar at the turn of the tide. Must be time for another cocktail! |
| Day 11 | An excursion in the tinnie for the day, travelling with the incoming tide to the cascades at the end of the Drysdale River. Walk along the rocks for fantastic photo opportunities and usually croc spotting and fish cavorting. Return to 'Red Sky' via a small waterfall. |
| Day 12 | Depart the Drysdale to visit a bay created by a group of islands. Great fishing and beaches. Dependant on weather conditions, a possibility of visiting another bay for further beach explorations, rock formations and exciting fishing. |
| Day 13 | An early start to travel into the southern reaches of the bay to anchor off McGowan's Camp. Our sad farewells as you depart by 4WD to meet your charter flight at Kalumburu and return to civilisation. |
Getting back to nature has never been this civilised
